Waresboro Elementary held its annual National Elementary Honor Society Induction Ceremony on Thursday, February 21st. Nine students received the prestigious honor of being recognized for their scholarship, responsibility, leadership, service and grade point average.
Mrs. Burchett (school counselor) had the honor of introducing this year’s guest speaker, Hannah Scott. Mrs. Burchett spoke of Mrs. Scott as a little girl she used to drive to Waresboro Elementary who kept her book bag on her back with the heater blowing in her face all the way to the school. Mrs. Scott graduated from Ware County High School where she then attended the Paul Mitchell School of Atlanta and earned a degree in cosmetology. In her speech to the students, Mrs. Scott spoke about being in the service industry and serving others is the rewarding part of her job. In closing, she shared a quote by Anthony Douglas Williams that stated, “Imagine what seven billion humans could accomplish if we all loved and respected each other.” She encouraged students to think about this quote adding that “no matter how educated, talented, rich or cool you believe you are, how you treat people tells all.”
Current NEHS members spoke of the qualities that one must possess as a member. Inductees then took their membership pledge, and the ceremony concluded with the traditional lighting of the candles representing scholarship, responsibility, leadership, and service. Among those in attendance were many parents, grandparents, educators and former retired educators.
NEHS members are led by advisors Lisa Thrift and Cindy Thrift. Ms. Gina Howell, Assistant Principal, stated in her closing remarks that she is proud of the National Elementary Honor Society inductees for their academic achievements and encouraged them to continue to be leaders at Waresboro Elementary and the community.
