The Ware County Schools District Spelling Bee brought together the county’s top young spellers on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, for a thrilling competition. Eight talented students, each a winner at their respective schools, competed for the district title and the chance to advance to the regional Spelling Bee in Savannah, GA, scheduled for February 2025.
Participants included: Gavin L. from Center Elementary School, Malachi M. from Memorial Drive Elementary School, Naomi S. from Ruskin Elementary School, Destiny A. from Wacona Elementary School, Leanna T. from Waresboro Elementary School, Sophia A. from Williams Heights Elementary School, Lydia A. from Ware County Middle School, and LillyAnne H. from Waycross Middle School.
After nine intense rounds of spelling, Lydia A. emerged victorious by correctly spelling the words opera and disguise in the final round. Malachi M. earned the runner-up spot, going out on the word energetic.
Superintendent Dr. Lynn Barber congratulated all participants on their outstanding performance, presenting each student with a certificate of achievement and a medal to commemorate their accomplishment. In addition, Lydia and Malachi received trophies to honor their exceptional achievements.
The Ware County School District commends all participants for their hard work, determination, and poise during the competition. Each student earned their place by excelling in grade-level and school-level spelling bees.
Congratulations to Lydia, who will represent Ware County at the regional Spelling Bee. We wish her the best of luck in the next stage of the competition!
