This past week students in second grade have been learning about money and economics. To increase the understanding and the importance of how to count money, teachers of second grade decided to set up shops in their classrooms and pay their students for positive behaviors. At the end of the week, students were allowed to spend their money or save it for larger items to spend on at a later date. This portion of spending money helped students better understand some of the vocabulary words that they learned for this unit, such as opportunity cost and scarcity. The students and teachers have enjoyed this unit of learning and plan to continue the store throughout the rest of the school year.
