During the month of November, Center Elementary School students, parents, and staff participated in a school-wide "Can Tab Drive" to benefit the McDonald House in Jacksonville Florida. Our Waycross community came together once again for a great cause to benefit others who are going through tough times with sickness by participating in the Waycross Can Project! We appreciate the special invitation to participate in this project from Kristy Foreman, owner of Ellianos in Waycross.
We would like to recognize our class winner out of all of our classes in grades Kindergarten to fifth grade! Mrs. LeGena Clark's class collected the most tabs among all the classes which weighed 9 pounds! Community sponsors donated prizes for this event, and her class received a $50 gift card from Gooey's Pizza. Additionally, each student received a gift card for a free snow cone at Snow Biz Snow Cones in Blackshear, GA. The students were so excited to not only receive their prizes but to support such a great cause! Overall, we collected almost 55 pounds of can tabs! WOW! Mrs. LeGena Clark was quoted saying, " We plan to continue to collect can tabs for the rest of the school year and take them to Elllianos in Waycross!" In second place, Mrs. Aspinwall's 4th-grade class collected 7.8 pounds, and in third place, Mrs. Joyce Arnold's kindergarten class collected 6.6 pounds!
Mr. Tyler A. Bennett is principal at Center Elementary School.
