Center Elementary School is celebrating a major academic achievement after being awarded the prestigious Literacy Banner by the Georgia Department of Education. The recognition comes from the school’s significant gains in reading among students in grades 3 through 5 on the 2023–2024 Georgia Milestones Assessments.
The Literacy Banner is a state-level honor awarded to schools that demonstrate outstanding progress and commitment to improving literacy outcomes. Center Elementary’s impressive growth reflects the dedication, hard work, and innovative strategies employed by its faculty and staff over the past year.
Principal Le Var Garner expressed immense pride in the school community, stating, “This accomplishment is the result of a shared vision, relentless commitment, and the belief that every child can succeed in reading. Our teachers, support staff, and families have gone above and beyond to create an environment where literacy is celebrated and nurtured daily.”
Teachers and instructional leaders at Center Elementary have worked tirelessly to implement data-driven instruction, targeted reading interventions, and engaging classroom practices that support students at all reading levels. The school has also focused on building a culture of reading inside and outside the classroom, encouraging students to develop a lifelong love of books.
Center is proud of this milestone and remains committed to building on this momentum in the years to come. Congratulations to the entire Center Elementary staff for their exceptional efforts in promoting literacy and student success!
