The Region 1-AAAA Swim Championships held at Perry High School on Thursday, January 16, 2025, showcased exceptional talent and fierce competition. WCHS Swim Team delivered an outstanding performance, securing 2nd Place Overall for Region 1 AAAA, with the Girls Swim Team also claiming 2nd Place Overall in their division.
Individual Achievements
Boys' Events
Matthew Davis emerged as a standout performer, clinching the title of Individual Region Champion in the Boys 500 Yard Freestyle. He also demonstrated his versatility by securing 2nd Place in the Boys 100 Yard Backstroke. Joshua Smith added to the team's success with a strong 2nd Place finish in the Boys 100 Yard Freestyle.
Girls' Events
The WCHS girls dominated the relay events, with the team of Sophie Cochran, Molly Smith, Kate Thorderson, and Lindsy Moore claiming 1st Place in the Girls 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. Another impressive performance came from the team of Amberly Padgett, Molly Smith, Ava Bennett, and Karmyn Jones, who secured 3rd Place in the Girls 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.
Sophie Cochran was the star of the individual events, earning the title of Individual Region Champion in both the Girls 50 Yard Freestyle and the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle. Her performance in the 100 Yard Freestyle was particularly noteworthy, as she achieved a State Championship Qualifying Time.
