The Ware County Gator and Lady Gator cross country teams competed in the GHSA 4A Section 1 meet held at Jones County High School on Saturday 11/2/24. The purpose of this meet was to determine which teams and individuals would qualify and move on to the GHSA 4A State Championship on Saturday 11/9/24. The top 12 boys teams and girls teams qualify as a team and the top 20 individuals in each race qualify for state as individuals. The boys race began at 9:00 AM and there were 26 teams competing. The Gators placed 18 th overall as a team in the meet. The Lady Gators placed 18 th out of 20 teams competing in the girls race. There were 183 runners in the boys race. Running for the Gators were Caleb Wise (11 th grade) whop placed 48 th with a time of 17:55, Josh Smith (10 th grade) placing 71 st with a time of 18:37, Brayten Hood (9 th grade) placing 104 th with a time of 19:41, Da’Marion Zanders (11 th grade) placing 139 th with a time of 20:58, Brock Payne (9 th grade) placing 141 st with a time of 21:00, Wesley Frye (11 th grade) placing 153 rd with a time of 22:07, and Silas Mixon (10 th grade) placing 154 th with a time of 19:41. The girls race had 138 runners finish. Running for the Lady gators were Destiney Mendoza (11 th grade) placing 53 rd with a time of 23:50, Olivis Sanders (12 th grade) placing 89 th with a time of 26:23, Kiyoko Ward (9 th grade) placing 113 th with a time of 28:14, Madison Donlon (11 th grade) placing 131 st with a time of 34:43, and Kali Patten (9 th grade) placing 132 nd with a time of 34:44. Congratulations goes out to Caleb Wise and Destiney Mendoza for making the first team all region! To achieve this designation the runners had to place in the top 7 from the teams in our region (Region 1 4A). Caleb Wise placed 6 th out of our region and Destiney Mendoza placed 3 rd out of our region. The Gators placed 3 rd as a team in our region behind Benedictine and Warner Robins, and the Lady Gators placed 3 rd as a team in out region behind Wayne Co. and Perry.
