In a thrilling match-up, the Region 1 - AAAAA Champion Varsity Girls Basketball team closed out their season with a hard-fought game, ultimately falling to Jones County with a final score of 34-32. Despite the loss, congratulations are in order for the Lady Gators, their coaches, and support staff on an outstanding season.
Meanwhile, Coach Cook and his Varsity Girls Soccer team secured a convincing victory over Bradwell Institute with a commanding 6-2 win. Arianna Davis stole the spotlight with a remarkable hat trick, supported by goals from Abby Hendrix, Raleigh Tuten, and Molly Chhin. Chhin's exceptional performance earned her the Woman of the Match award, alongside Davis for her hat trick. On the other hand, Coach Thrift's Varsity Boys Soccer team faced a tough challenge against Bradwell Institute, narrowly missing out with a 1-0 defeat. Cole Thrift was recognized as the Player of the Game for his standout efforts.
Over in Rifle, the team hosted Columbus for the GHSA Rifle Sectional and emerged victorious with a score of 1152, showcasing remarkable precision with 62 center shots compared to Columbus's 1121 points with 42 center shots. Kudos to Austin Griffis, Macy Tatum, Gabrielle Howard, Makayla Whitley, and Neve Smoak for their stellar performances.
Saturday, February 24th:
The action continued as the JV Girls Soccer team embarked on the TCC Cup journey. They displayed resilience, securing a solid win against West Over with a dominant 5-0 victory. However, they faced a setback against Sherwood Christian, falling short with a 5-0 defeat. Similarly, the JV Boys Soccer team encountered tough competition, losing to Cherwood Christian (1-3) and Colquitt (0-4).
Coach Ammons led the Varsity Baseball team into battle against the AAAAAAA South Forsyth Ware Eagles at TCC. Despite a hard-fought defensive struggle, the Gators narrowly missed out, succumbing to a 2-1 defeat.
In Golf, Coach Wheeler guided the Boys Golf team to the Camden Classic in St. Mary’s. Despite facing formidable opponents, the team exhibited resilience, securing a 10th place overall finish. Trace Carter delivered an impressive performance, clinching 3rd place with a score of 71.
Despite the ups and downs, the Gators showcased their determination and talent across various sports this weekend. We are looking forward to continued success in the games to come!
