Ware County Wrestling Competes @ the AAAAA GHSA State Championships
At the GHSA State Wrestling Championships, Ware County's wrestling team showcased an inspiring display of resilience and skill finishing 8th overall in AAAAA, highlighted by standout performances in various weight classes and a dominant victory in the 285-pound division.
Jordan Maxwell, competing in the 5A-113 category, faced tough opposition throughout the tournament. Despite his efforts, he fell short in the Championship Round 1 to Robert Managa from Chapel Hill.
Da`Marion Zanders, in the 5A-120 division, kicked off his campaign with a thrilling sudden victory - 1 win over Donnie Lowden from Warner Robins. However, despite a valiant effort, Zanders succumbed to Roman Belardo from Jefferson in the quarterfinals, followed by a tough loss to Pablo Nunez from Coffee in the Cons. Round 3.
In the 5A-126 weight class, Rodrigo Reyes faced tough challenges, starting with a major decision loss to Jobi Colbert from Ola. Despite receiving a bye in Cons. Round 1, Reyes fell to Aiden Lipford from Jones County in Cons. Round 2, ending his tournament journey.
Kaden Drury's participation in the 5A-144 division showed his resilience despite facing tough opponents. Although he lost to Malaki Williams from Villa Rica in the Championship Round 1, Drury received a bye in Cons. Round 1 before ultimately losing to Alex Salser from Greenbrier in Cons. Round 2.
Zy Ramsey's journey in the 5A-150 category was marked by both triumph and adversity. After receiving a bye in the Champ. Round 1, Ramsey faced a formidable opponent in Alex Schwarz from Northside, Columbus, losing by tech fall. However, Ramsey bounced back with impressive victories in Cons. Round 2 and Cons. Round 3 before falling to Jared Walker from Ola in the Cons. Semi.
Gunter Fore's performance in the 5A-157 division showcased his determination and skill. Despite a loss to Avery Spencer from Locust Grove in Champ. Round 1, Fore bounced back with victories in Cons. Round 2 and Cons. Round 3 before ultimately placing 6th in the tournament.
Cameron Hambrick's efforts in the 5A-165 category added valuable team points. He started with a sudden victory - 1 win over Angel Alvarez from Greater Atlanta Christian HS before falling to Davis Dendy from Jefferson in the quarterfinals. Hambrick rallied with a victory in Cons. Round 2 but ultimately succumbed to Ronin Simms from Decatur in Cons. Round 3.
Wyatt Deal faced tough opposition in the 5A-175 division, losing by major decision to Jason Clark from Flowery Branch in Championship Round 1. Despite receiving a bye in Cons. Round 1, Deal suffered another major decision loss to Matthew VanWettering from Harris County in Cons. Round 2.
Noah Lucas showcased his skills in the 5A-190 division, securing a victory by fall over Jude Wiseman from Locust Grove in Champ. Round 1. However, he fell short to Griffin Harper from Flowery Branch in the quarterfinals, followed by a loss to Adam Carroll from Centennial in Cons. Round 2.
The highlight of the tournament undoubtedly came from Ware County's Jabare' George in the 5A-285 division. George dominated his opponents with commanding victories, starting with a bye in Championship Round 1 followed by a victory by fall over Tyquon Hollins from Banneker in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, George secured another impressive victory by fall over Austin Presley from Villa Rica before ultimately claiming the 1st place title with a decisive win by decision over Kwadrus Wilson from Woodland, Cartersville, earning 26.0 team points for Ware County.
Additionally, in the girls' tournament, Delaney James showcased her prowess with a 5th place finish, further highlighting Ware County's commitment to excellence across all divisions.
