The ninth grade Ware County Gators football team defeated the Irwin Indians in a rain-soaked game by a score of 15-14. The Gators trailed 14-0 at halftime after sloppy play and penalties derailed several drives. It came down to 2 minutes left in the game, when the Gators scored in two plays, to take the lead the final time. Isaiah White completed 12 passes, including both touchdowns. Ja’Londi O’Hara caught another 6 passes, two of which, resulted in our touchdowns. M’Khi Perry, KJ Junious and Lojuan Blue also had catches.
Defensively, the Gators got down early, but played great football and pitched a shutout the second half. Jamarion Keyhea had 15 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and a sack. Evan Thomas and Elan Jones also played great games, with each recovering a huge fumble. At the end of the day, the Gators won the game on the back of an incredible defensive performance.
This game marks the end of the ninth grade season. These kids had a great year and will now be moving up and joining the rest of the Gators football program as we continue on with region play.
