Big Seventh Inning Leads Blue Devils Past Lady Gators
The Statesboro Blue Devils put together a rally in the seventh inning, which helped them defeat Ware County Varsity Gators 13-4 on Tuesday.
The Statesboro girls were the first to get on the board in the second when an error scored one run.
A single by Mackenzi Trull gave Ware the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the third.
Statesboro flipped the game on its head in the top of the seventh, scoring 12 runs on nine hits to take a 13-2 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Kaylee Deal that drove in two.
Reagan Middleton stepped in the circle first for Ware County. She surrendered six hits and five runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out none and walking two. Mincey Akins stepped in the circle first for the Blue Devils. The righty surrendered six hits and four runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out four and walking three.
Trull went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Ware in hits. The Lady Gators turned one double play in the game.
Statesboro collected 13 hits in the game. the Blue Devils’ Kate Yawn made the most of her chances at the plate. The number eight hitter led the team with three hits in four at bats. Maggie Proctor went 2-tor-5 at the plate as she led the team with three runs batted in. Claiborne Jones and Deal each collected multiple hits for Statesboro. The Blue Devils turned one double play in the game.
Next up for the Lady Gators is the Region Tournament in Augusta on Monday.
