Jeff Davis defeated Ware County 16-5 on Monday thanks in part to 10 runs in the seventh inning. Jeff Davis opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. They first got on the board when Alara McCall singled, scoring one run.
Ryleigh Wilson grounded out, which helped Ware County Junior Varsity Gators tie the game at two in the bottom of the fourth.
A single by Ashlyn Jacobs gave Ware the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the fifth.
Jeff Davis took the lead in the top of the sixth inning after scoring on a passed ball, McCall singled, Emma McEachin was struck by a pitch, and Riley Hughes singled, each scoring one run.
The Lady Jackets scored 10 runs on seven hits in the top of the seventh inning. Alera Vann doubled, scoring one run; McCall doubled, scoring two runs; Jaqueline Villasenor grounded out, scoring one run; Payten Warnock singled, scoring one run; Mace DuBose singled, scoring one run; Vann drew a walk, scoring one run; Jazmine Villasenor drew a walk, scoring one run; McCall drew a walk, scoring one run; and Mattie Forsyth induced Villasenor to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.
Hughes began the game for Jeff Davis. The starting pitcher allowed 10 hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking six.
Ware tallied 10 hits in the game. Harmony Stevenson, Kayleigh LeMay, and Jacobs each collected two hits for the Lady Gators. Clark, Jacobs, and Wilson each drove in one run for Ware JV. Paislee Wildes stole two bases. Ware worked the count all day, tallying six walks.
Ware stole five bases in the game. Jeff Davis piled up 17 hits in the game. McCall, Hughes, and Madison Joyce each collected three hits for Jeff Davis Softball JV. McCall provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led her team with five runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 3-for-4 on the day. Vann and Lexi Rowland each collected multiple hits for JD. Villasenor led Jeff Davis with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating five walks for the game.
Next Up: Wednesday the Lady Gators will host Bacon County in a single Varsity Game on Wednesday 9/27/2023. First pitch is set for 5:00 PM at Gator Field. Tickets will be $7.00 at the gate.
