Ware County Varsity Gators Come Up Short Against Wayne County Varsity Lady Jackets
Ware County Lady Gators could not keep pace with Wayne County Lady Jackets at 6-3 on Thursday.
Wayne opened the scoring in the second after Ellie Harrison grounded out, scoring one run.
LaNeeya Garrison singled, which helped Ware tie the game at one in the bottom of the second.
A ground out by Kayden Mounts gave Wayne the lead, 2-1, in the top of the third.
Aniston Delk singled, which helped the Lady Gators tie the game at two in the bottom of the third.
A solo home run to left field by Addie Tyre gave Wayne the lead, 3-2, in the top of the fourth.
Kaleigh Joiner singled, which helped Ware tie the game at three in the bottom of the fourth.
In the top of the fifth, Wayne broke up the tie when Raeghan Harvey singled, scoring one run. Then an error followed to extend the lead to 6-3.
Reagan Middleton started in the circle for Ware County. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and two runs over three innings, striking out two and walking none. Dakota Crowe stepped in the circle first for Wayne County Lady Jackets. She gave up seven hits and three runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking one.
Aniston Delk, Cuylea Martin, Molly Smith, Josie Augustine, Kaleigh Joiner, LaNeeya Garrison, and Amberley Padgett each collected one hit for the Lady Gators. Joiner and Garrison each drove in one run for Ware.
Tyre and Harvey were a force together in thelineup, as they each collected two hits for Wayne while hitting back-to-back. Candice Thornton seized on their opportunities, leading Wayne with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. Wayne turned one double play in the game.
