Congratulations to Laura Deen, Director of School Nutrition and a June Golden Achievement Award winner.
Upon presenting the award, Supt. Smith noted, “On March 17, 2020, the Ware County School System closed all schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic without knowing when students would return. Little did we know that we would not return to school for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Knowing that many of our students rely on the school nutrition program to receive nourishment, school closures were deeply concerning. The Ware County Schools nutrition program, led by Ms. Laura Deen, quickly developed a remote service model so they could continue to prepare meals for all Ware County students. By the final day of our feeding program on May 21st, Ms. Deen and her staff, along with many staff members and volunteers, had served over 131,495 meals to our community’s children. We appreciate Ms. Deen and her staff for the work they are doing to keep our Ware County students fed. Thank you, Ms. Deen.”
Way to go, Ms. Deen! You are making a difference!
