Ruskin Elementary Media Specialist Mrs. Tonya Dixon has challenged students to read 30,000 books before the end of the school year. In order to motivate them, she is using a Reading Wheel in the library where students earn a chance to “Spin and Win” prizes for reading books and earning Accelerated Reader points. One of the prizes that students have really enjoyed is the opportunity to become Junior Patrol Officers. Students are sworn in, provided a badge, and learn the importance of school safety. “Our Jaguars have read over 17,650 books so far, so I am thrilled about this challenge! I have noticed an increase in library circulation, and the children are excited about reading,” said Mrs. Dixon. Mrs. Donna Solomon is the principal of Ruskin Elementary School.
