Ware County Schools officials met again with Ware County Emergency Management personnel this morning to discuss our response to Hurricane Idalia.
The National Weather Center has released new information that puts Waycross-Ware Co. in a greater area of concern. If the storm stays on its current course, we could have sustained winds causing downed trees, debris, damage to structures, power outages, and rain resulting in localized flooding. Tornados are also a possibility.
The storm is expected to pass through our area too late in the day on Wednesday to wait to determine if we will have school on Thursday. In light of this information, we have made the following changes to the school schedule:
There will be no school for students or staff on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. Students will also be off Thursday, August 31, 2023, and staff will report at 9:00 AM.
If it is safe to hold practices or games on Thursday afternoon, we may still have extracurricular activities. It will be the parent's responsibility to get their child to and from local practices and games, but we will use bus transportation if we are able to play the scheduled out-of-town games. Coaches will use Band app to communicate with their teams.
The safety of our students and staff remains our priority. Thank you again for your patience and flexibility as we continue to assess the safest path forward.
