Ware County School System officials are working closely with Ware County Emergency Management personnel to determine the safest course of action in response to Tropical Storm Idalia, which is expected to strengthen into a hurricane before impacting our area midweek. Current models suggest that the storm will track directly across southeast Georgia. We expect to see rain bands arrive and winds pick up beginning Tuesday evening, with the eye of the storm passing over southeast Georgia Wednesday.
All schools and the Central Office will be closed Wednesday, August 30, 2023. We expect to resume regular operations on Thursday, August 31, and will communicate any changes to this plan on Wednesday afternoon, once we are able to assess road conditions and any damages to our facilities. Our communication channels include Thrillshare (our callout system), the system website and Facebook page, and regional radio/television broadcasts.
